Masters & Heroes - Kent Williams

I have long regarded Kent Williams as one of the finest portrait artists, and one of my favorite art books is “Kent Williams - Drawings & Monotypes”. It is always inspiring to flip through.

Jessica Hische

I became aware of her awesome illustration via UPPERCASE. And I think I spy some content from Jessica in the upcoming issue of the magazine. So check it out. What a great color palette used for this series of covers.

Kay Nielsen

While I am settling in and catching up on things missed while I was away I figured taking a look at some inspiring illustrators couldn’t hurt. Kay (Kigh) Nielsen, a Danish illustrator surely fits into this category. He illustrated “Arabian Nights” & “East of the Sun West of the Moon” among others. As well he did backdrop work for the Royal Danish Theatre. Later in his career his work was used in several scenes of Walt Disney’s “Fantasia”.

OvS Stamp

One of the coolest things about my trip to Indonesia was discovering that rubber stamps are dirt cheap!

Married in Bali!

I was lucky enough to wed my darling Sheila on the 23rd of May.

(Cool thing about these pictures: They were taken on a beach in Bali, in front of the wall of a fisherman’s hut. It is over 30 degrees Celsius, we are standing in garbage, there are three fishermen fixing their boat with stinky fiberglass a mere two feet from sheila’s left foot, and they still worked out perfect!)

Fair Wind to Java

We are leaving tomorrow for Indonesia! Two weeks in Java visiting family and another two weeks in Bali. I will try to keep OVS updated as best I can. Hopefully I will see some great illustration and design. I KNOW I will see some wicked packaging in the candy stores of Tokyo (We get 1 day on the way there!)

Mark Ryden

Mark Ryden’s “Snow Yak Show” has a unique pallete compared to his other work. Very cool, and worth a look. He managed to snag the current Hi-Fructose cover too!
